The Alamo is what San Antonio is most known for. As we were planning our trip to San Antonio, we knew that we wanted to visit, but didn’t know the full history behind this landmark.
The Alamo itself is in downtown San Antonio. If you are staying anywhere near the Riverwalk, you will be within walking distance. Another great aspect is that it is free to visit. If you would like to go inside of the church, you will need to pick up a free ticket at the welcome center. Furthermore, they also have an exhibit if you want to experience more for a nominal fee.
If you are visiting during the warmer months, I recommend visiting early in the morning when they open at 9am. That’s because there is not much shade, but also you’ll avoid the busier crowds. Plus, getting those photos outside are easier without the crowds.

When you walk in, I recommend you head to the left and enter the long barracks. Inside, on the far left side, there is a room that plays an informational video about the location. It was about 15 minutes long, but incredibly informative. I learned the most during that video.

Most of the remaining parts of the grounds are outside. You’ll see statues, gardens, and more as you inside the courtyards. Then, you will want to finish inside the church. The church is small, but if you enjoy history and the fact this landmark was built in the 18th century, you will appreciate the experience.
After visiting, you are so close to the River Walk that you can go over and check out the other famous San Antonio landmark. If you are interested in other travel recs, you can check out the travel guides or Texas guides.
