Just last week, I hit my 8 year anniversary of living in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. Honestly, I cannot believe how fast time has flown since then. I have always been a Chicago area girl growing up in the suburbs, but I knew from a young age that I was going to live in the city at some point.
I actually stumbled into living in Lakeview. At the time, a coworker was moving back home to New York and offered me the opportunity to sublease her apartment. It was the perfect, cute space on the west side of Lakeview. After my sublease was up, I spent nearly a year in Wrigleyville before living 4.5 years along the lake in East Lakeview. Currently, I have spent the last 2 years on the south central side of the neighborhood. So when I say, I have lived in almost every corner, I mean it!
Lakeview as a whole is such a diverse neighborhood. There are many sub-areas like Wrigleyville and Northalsted that encompass the area. The area as a whole is laidback, but is never lacking something to do and see. Plus, it is one of the most walkable and convenient areas of the city in my opinion. So let’s dive in to the details.
The Necessities
One of the best parts of Lakeview neighborhood is the accessibility. If you choose to live in Lakeview, you will have access to three different L lines (brown, purple, and red) and numerous bus routes. If you don’t have a car, you shouldn’t have any issues getting around. But if you do have a car, the street parking is fairly easy, especially as you get further away from the lake.
Another reason Lakeview is a great option is how affordable it is. There is never a shortage of available rental options and I think it is the perfect combination of location and price. If you are looking for rental companies in the area, I can recommend Enterprise Companies and Cagan.
All of the major necessities are there as well. There are all the major grocery stores, multiple hospitals nearby, tons of gyms and fitness studios, and a convenience store or pharmacy around every corner.
Where to Eat

When you think of Chicago dining scenes, you probably think of the West Loop and River North. Lakeview is home to an underrated dining scene. You have Michelin acclaimed restaurants like Sochi and Dear Margaret to fun sports bars and authentic local cuisines. If you want a recommendation for any occasion, you can check out the Lakeview guides or reach out. I love finding and recommending the perfect restaurant for you!
Things to Do

There are two main areas for shopping in Lakeview. First is the Southport Corridor and the second is along Broadway. You can find local boutiques like Alice & Wonder and numerous national brands like Kendra Scott, J.Crew, Anthropologie, and more. These two areas also contain a ton of restaurants and a ton of things to do. Along the Southport Corridor, you must pop in Aura Candle Bar. You can make your own candle or find the perfect gift for someone you love!
If you love the Chicago Cubs, you will be in walking distance of Wrigley Field. Aside from baseball, Gallagher Way hosts numerous events and there are always major concerts every summer. There are also numerous theaters, concert venues, and comedy options so no matter what your enjoy, there will be an option for you!
Moving to the Lakeview Neighborhood

If I haven’t convinced you yet that Lakeview is a great neighborhood to live in, what are you waiting for?! I know that moving can be stressful, but I am a big fan of hiring movers. It just makes the experience so much easier! There are tons of labor movers in Chicago for those who love packing like me including JC Movers & Lumper Service Inc. They are local, experienced, and professional. Plus, they serve the city and the suburbs!
I’d love to hear your tips and tricks for Lakeview. Drop them below.
