Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! Having a diverse family has allowed me to appreciate the efforts and impact of his work. Today, it feels right to highlight one of the many incredible black-owned businesses in Chicago, Batter & Berries. They are just around the corner from me.
I went for breakfast on a week day and it was crowded, but we were able to walk right in. If you go during the peak time on a weekend, prepare to wait. It is always hopping every time I walk by.
As their name may hint, they are known for their French toast. They have a flight were you could try a few varieties and they always have one on special. French toast isn’t my cup of tea, but my friends have raved about theirs.
One of my favorite things about the menu was the unique combinations. I got the chicken fajita omelet. It was so flavorful! However, I think the best part were those cheesy hash browns. My friend got the cluck & gravy and echoed my sentiments.

As you go out today and in the coming months, consider Batter & Berries or one of the black-owned restaurants listed below. Let me know your favorites!
