Savannah, Georgia is a quintessential Southern town that I had wanted to check out for some time. Located on the Savannah River, this town is full of Spanish moss and haunted areas. A day was the perfect amount of time to spend exploring the city. Unfortunately, we dodged thunderstorms all day, but made the best of it.
We stayed at The Cotton Sail hotel which was right on the river. This location was really convenient for a good portion of the city. We had a car which made it very convenient to get to many of the spaces outside of this riverfront area.
City Market
City Market is a pedestrian walkway between two squares that some consider to be the heart of Savannah. With shops, restaurants, and even a prohibition museum this is a great place to explore. I found some cute gifts for family and fell in love with Spartina 449. Keeping that shop in mind for my future beach house!

Vic’s on the River
In Savannah, you can find restaurants from cheap local eats to upscale experiences. For lunch, I wanted to try something on the river, but also within a moderate price. Vic’s on the River was that place. When you walk in, it feels upscale. We sat right by a window that had a view onto the river with a wrought iron fence balcony. I ordered the cheerwine short rib sandwich. It was memorable. The flavor was so good and I had the side gem wedge salad which was the perfect compliment. Also, on the street side of Vic’s on the River, you can find quaint bridges for cute photo ops like the one above. These bridges continue along the street.

Bonaventure Cemetery
About 20 mins from Savannah’s city center, you can find Bonaventure Cemetery. Now it may sound a little morbid to tour a cemetery, but the Spanish moss may change your mind! Entrance to the cemetery is free. We didn’t get out too much because it was raining, but I was shocked at how large the cemetery was. If you have time to explore, you can take a tour or find different celebrity tombstones.

Tybee Island
Have you ever seen the Miley Cyrus movie The Last Song? That was filmed in Tybee Island. I wanted to check it out for that sole reason. 😂😂 Just like our entire day in Savannah, it was raining. I was surprised at how small the town was. I think the rain may have made it look less busy than it is with good weather. We went to the 19th Street beach and spent a short time there.

Leopold’s Ice Cream
When I asked my friends, family, and followers for Savannah recommendation, Leopold’s Ice Cream was the unanimous recommendation. This ice cream shop is over 100 years old! The reviews were so great that we ventured there after our visit to Tybee Island. Since it was so humid that day, it was nice to cool off with this delicious sweet treat. We got there mid-afternoon and then line was down the block. It moved fairly quickly. I got the cookies2 and it was delicious! This is a must try in Savannah!

Moon River Brewing
After a full day of food and adventuring around, we wanted somewhere local yet chill to relax. Throughout the day we walked past Moon River Brewing a few times and it was packed. Beer is never my first choice, but being at a brewery, I always try something new. I had the Yoga Pants, a Southern-Style Pale Ale. I enjoyed it. For our meal, we split the nachos. They were absolutely as good as it looked!

Overall, I think Savannah is a great stopover city or a day trip from Hilton Head. We did drive by Forsyth Park, but I wasn’t too impressed with it. If we were to go back, I would want to take a trolley tour. Hearing more about the sites and hidden spots would be of interest. Let me know if there is anywhere in Savannah that should be added to the list!
