Chicago Pizza & Oven Grinder

Pizza and Chicago go together like peanut butter and jelly. Seriously, Chicago is the pizza capital of the world. Until now, I had never tried the pizza pot pie that Chicago Pizza & Oven Grinder made famous. It’s like a deep dish pizza, but at the same time completely different. Did it live up to the hype?!

One of the few perks of the pandemic is that Chicago Pizza & Oven Grinder is taking reservations. Before the pandemic, you would see groups of people waiting outside on Clark for their chance to get in. You absolutely need to make a reservation to get a table. However, they still are cash only so be prepared before you visit.

When you walk in, you feel as though you are transported to somewhere else. It’s a basement feel with old timey, yet simple style. Their menu on the wall is straightforward and not a huge menu to dig through both food and drinks. At our waiter’s recommendation, we ordered the flatbread and each had a pot pie. My verdict is it’s good, but not my top Chicago pizza place. The flatbread was so flavorful and the pot pie was solid. I had about half of my pot pie left over and it was not great leftovers unlike other pizza. I am glad I knocked it off my food bucket list, will definitely go back again, but it won’t be my top Chicago pizza place.

Let me know if you have tried it and what you think?!
