Moulin Rouge Paris was unlike anything I have ever seen before. I honestly didn’t know much about Moulin Rouge before going to a show in Paris, France. I knew the Lady Marmalade song, but had never seen the movie before. My sister gave me options as a Christmas gift to choose from different Paris activities during our trip together. Moulin Rouge was my choice because it felt like the most unique thing to do.
Moulin Rouge is located in the Montmartre neighborhood of Paris. I’ve heard great things about that neighborhood and if we had time to explore during the day, I would have absolutely taken the opportunity. Getting to Montmartre was very easy via the Metro within steps of the theater.

You are able to see shows throughout the evening at 7pm, 9pm, or 11pm. The 7pm show includes dinner. We chose the 9pm show so we had to get dinner beforehand. We chose to go to Le Sanglier Bleu. It was an authentic French restaurant just a block away from the theater. We both ordered the pork belly as our entrée and it was so delicious. One thing that surprised me in France was how much pork I did eat! We had a little time before the show started and the main street with Moulin Rouge has a ton of bars and restaurants that you could pop into which we did for a drink.

Going into the theater, we forgot to check for a dress code. They do not want sneakers, which is all I brought. Luckily, it is not enforced and you see a range of dress from casual to very dressed up. The theater itself was incredibly ornate and larger than expected. They sit you at a table which depending upon your group size you may share with others like we did. The tables are arranged so you can see a view of the entire stage.

I expected a variety show, but really had no idea what to expect. Boy, I was surprised! One thing I didn’t know was the amount of nudity. For the majority of the show, there is some group of topless women. However, after a quick moment, you don’t really notice it. The second thing that impressed me was the show quality. There was a variety of dance and acrobatic acts that were incredibly unique. This made it entertaining and exciting. Last, but not least, there was no intermission so it truly was a nonstop performance.

If you are looking for something outside of the traditional Paris activities, I can’t recommend Moulin Rouge enough. You can find my other France recommendations and Europe travel guides for your next trip.
